The SOPRANATURE® BioWall

The SOPRANATURE® BioWall offers an elegant and uplifting way to make any space more sustainable.

Recently, there has been a rise in the popularity of green construction and design. A great example of this is the 2017 renovation of the Jack Casino in Ohio, which features over 3,000 square feet of hydroponic living walls in the new design. This is not only the largest example of a living wall in the U.S., but it was also named “BUILD Magazine’s Best in Living Systems Design & Installation – USA and [won] USA Commercial Project of the Year 2018 in the category of Sustainable Building.”

The walls that were used in that redesign are called “BioWalls,” and they come from a company called Furbish, which is a SOPREMA Group company. BioWalls are living systems that allow contractors and designers to bring nature’s beauty into interior and exterior built environments.  These green walls bring a variety of benefits to any space, including:

  • Lightweight and easy to install: The Furbish team spent nearly two decades designing their BioWalls. The result is a thin-profile, open-loop ecosystem that is lightweight and easy to install.
  • Improved air quality: BioWalls naturally filter the surrounding air, which both removes pollutants and reduces the energy demand of existing HVAC systems.
  • Stunning aesthetics: Get a naturally elegant look with BioWall’s long-lived, stable ecologies and broad plant palettes.
  • Full warranty: The warranty for the SOPRANATURE® BioWall covers system components, workmanship and plant viability.
  • Boost occupant health: Research has shown that meaningful, regular contact with nature through biophilic design has the ability to boost an individual’s mental health.
  • Low maintenance: BioWalls are nutrient and dimensionally stable. In other words, they are a low input living wall, making them very low maintenance.
  • Guaranteed performance: The Furbish team designed BioWalls to utilize a hydroponic system of irrigation that allows for precise control over the plants’ nutrient and water intake. This helps guarantee reliable, healthy coverage of the wall.
